New home for the next two years!
Its crazy how fast time has gone by! Yesterday I found out the site I will be living and working in for the next two years. Pacayitas, it is in the Cartago Province, the closest major town is Turrialba. Turrialba is known for their cheese, its a special Costa Rican cheese that tastes like nothing else I have had before. Near my town there are two cheese factories, a Guanabana marmalade making place, coffee farms, rural tourism opportunities and a ton more. I am in the mountains and have been told that there is some great white water rafting areas around and a TON of awesome hiking opportunities (I am pretty close to Chirripo as well so that will be one of the first things that I will be checking off my list) so I cant wait! The community size is around 1,100 but that includes the the closest towns around as well so it is actually quite small. I am the second volunteer to work in my site but the first one was there around 20 years ago so for a lot of them it will be the first time working with Peace Corps:) Oh and just on a side note, we had a mini mock Thanksgiving yesterday during our site assignment celebration and about 75% of us got food poisoning :/ Happy Thanksgiving lol!

ReplyDeleteOk, so I will try it again. I am having a difficult time posting. I lost my post.
ReplyDeleteSo, the beach kid is moving to the mountains for 2 years, that will be a switch!!!!
I had questions....how is the foot and ankle, will you have your own place or another host family, is the cheese the wonderful cheese I ate this summer, is the guanabana the same stuff used in the wonderful fruit drink I had this summer, and what will your swearing in look like on Dec 17?
Have you recovered from your Thanksgiving dinner? :-(
Be safe, take care. I love you.
Love,
Mom
I know right, but I am closer to the Caribbean coast so I will for sure be hitting that up a ton:). As far as the foot, it is much better now, took a couple days of soaking it in white vinegar, salt and hot water but we were able to kill the infection thank goodness. And YES, it is the wonderful cheese you ate this summer and the yummy fruit drink you had:) As far as the swearing in ceremony, it will be at the Ambassadors house in San Jose, very formal. Thats about all I know :) And lucky for me I didnt really get hit by the Thanksgiving dinner problem, we have decided it was the juice that got everyone sick and lucky for me i never saw the juice so I didnt have any. But some people had 5 glasses, imagine how their night was...ouch. Any more questions? Keep them coming:)
ReplyDeleteDid we pack you something formal to wear ???? I can't remember.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear your foot is better :) I googled the location and it's pretty cool. I'm sure that in two years we'll see a lot more in the area ;)
